Music Video Fashion: IU BBIBBI

IU is one of my favorite solo artists. I have so much love for her and I can’t believe she’s been actively in the music industry for ten years. I was hoping we were going to get a mini album or full-length album for her ten-year anniversary, but we got a single. An amazing single called BBIBBI. So, let’s talk about the different looks in BBIBBI.

Look 1

I’m giving IU a pass/side eye on her sad attempt of box braids. Hair cultural appropriation doesn’t bother me mostly because 99% of the time it looks terrible so if anything, they’re just playing themselves in my eyes. I wish they would have just put colorful extensions in her hair instead. The rest of her outfit here was cute. I loved the quilted patchwork design of her hoody. I want something like it. Plus, it has pockets! I’m also a huge fan of the clunky sneakers.

Look 2

THE BEST look of the entire video. I see why they used it in teaser pics before the song was released. It’s so editorial and classy. It’s suits IU perfectly. I love this iridescent blouse paired with the long black and white skirt. I could see wearing these two pieces individually along with wearing this exact outfit to a special event. The sunglasses included. Those will be perfect for spring/summer 2019.

Look 3

And it was all yellow. This look is really cute. I love monochrome outfits and marching accessories like the headband and earrings. I’m not sure if this was a dress she was wearing in this scene or if it was a blouse and long skirt like the second look.

Look 4

This fourth look is kinda boring. I love the color of her sweater. It looks comfy, but I’m more interested in her sneakers. I know a lot of people hate this current trend of clunky dad sneakers, but they remind me of Bratz shoes. Like the feet would be so exaggerated to match their heads but they were still cute. Idk what do y’all think? I like that they have a cartoony feel to them. Also, we can’t forget the phone that says not my business. I love when IU gets shady in her music.

Look 5

I know I said look 2 was the best look of BBIBBI, however this look is my favorite. It shouldn’t be a surprise at this point in my reviews lol. I’ve been seeing sooooo many cute berets that I want to buy/make. Actually, this look would be cute to cosplay at KCON next year. Oh and we have more cute sneakers.

Look 5

BALENCIAGAAAAAAA. I have some issues with the whole one brand one look thing that’s been happening ton in fashion magazines over the past couple of years, but when it’s styled correctly, I love it.  In this case I love it. This is another cute outfit that will be perfect for spring next year. I’m a huge fan of these knitted sock heels I haven’t found a pair in my size yet but once I do, I will be wearing them as much as possible.

Look 6

Simple but cute. I love the use of complementary colors in this since. As I’ve mentioned before blue and orange is my favorite complementary color combination.

Look 6

And we’re at the final look of the music video. It’s my least favorite outfit in BBIBBI but I’m picky when it comes to athleisure. Most of the time I hate it. I do love her sunglasses here and the way this scene was filmed.

A little over 600 words! A shorter post for y’all today. *Throws confetti* I’m pretty much caught up on music videos I wanted to cover. There are a couple of newer girl groups that just debuted. I may do my next post on IZ*ONE. I loveeee La Vie en Rose. I’ll let y’all know. I’m working on getting my business setup, so my posting might get a bit sporadic but that’s nothing too new for me lmao. Anyway, happy Veteran’s day! I hope y’all enjoy the rest of your day!

  1. Why is it cultural apropriation? I mean, if someone uses some type of hairstyle, isnet because she likes it? why black people get offended when someone is just apreciating some type of hairstyle who came from their culture? I think we should stop putting barriers everywhere. I totally agree with “cultural apropriation” or “racist” when it is meant to ofend someone, but if someone is just enjoying herself why is a big deal? shes hurting no one, just havinh fun and aprreciating. Its the same when a black person stretch the hair and i dont see any white person getting offended by it…

    1. Hi! I’m not sure where you’re from but I’m just one black girl from America so I don’t obviously represent the whole group, but I didn’t say she was directly cultural appropriating anything. Some may say she is but I’m not.

Most black people have an issue with other races wearing hairstyles worn traditionally to protect our natural black hair is because when we do it, we get made fun of, passed over for jobs, and other negative feedback for it. It’s been like that for DECADES and it’s STILL going on in America today. Unfortunately, our hair has always had a political connotation with it with non-black people and within the black community. However when white or Asian people do it, it’s seen as edgy and gets praised. That’s why most black people get pissed off.
